Week of Prayer

Ministers Letter - November 2008

I applaud the deacons for their decision to have the church photograph and for inviting so many people. Numbers are not the main issue though it is always good to see smiling and engaging faces. The joy is that people want to identify with the church and can be assured that they are remembered prayerfully by disciples in the church.

In recent weeks simple bookmarks have been distributed at church, encouraging people to pray for missionary societies or individual missionaries. Your prayers help to guide the deacons when they distribute the 10% fund from the Sunday offerings. It was good to hear David Meikle refer to the good work of Tools With A Mission, when he was describing the Christian mission in Rwanda, at our Café service in October. We cannot all keep abreast of all mission work but when we share our prayers for different ventures we are all blessed with food for thought.

The bookmarks are also encouraging prayer partners to pray for individuals who could be introduced to the life of the church and would be blessed by faith in Christ. There are a number of events coming up where people can be introduced to the life of faith. On 7th of December, the SW churches are having a café service at Gusford Primary School. We did a similar thing in the Summer, at Saint Peter’s. We will include some singing, this time, due to some requests, following the last event. On 15th December, George Hamilton IV is singing at the Key in Ipswich and sharing his testimony amid his hit songs from the 70’s and 80’s. Nine people are already going. If you would like to join them and perhaps take a friend along, have a word with Wendy Shaw. We are having a meal, on 31st of January, in the loaves and fishes with John Newton Webb as our after dinner speaker. He is an evangelist and often speaks on university campuses. If none of these events will be of use to you bringing a friend to church, please tell me what you need and I shall try and arrange something.

“Turn up and sing” was encouraging. Ten people formed a group of singers and sang at the evening service. Six others would like to have joined but were not able to attend. There will be another opportunity for any one to join the singing group, on 23rd November. The rehearsal will be before the service. We are planning for the singers to do a couple of items at the Carol Service.

At the start of the year, three of our members bore testimony to the goodness of God in their lives. Please tell me if you can give glory to God.
